How would you describe the philosophy or feeling behind Of The Earth, and what makes it distinct within your local scene?

I built Of The Earth around a simple idea: food tastes better when it tells a story. The brand shows that sustainability can be effortless, elevated, and beautiful. It’s not just a café or restaurant. It’s a movement toward conscious dining and slow living, brought to life through design, storytelling, and community. What makes it distinct within the local scene is that it’s not just about aesthetics or trends, but about substance. From the way we source our produce to how the space is designed, there’s a consistent narrative of being “of the earth”: imperfect, seasonal, and real. It’s less about perfection and more about feeling.

We tend to attract people who appreciate simplicity, good produce, and thoughtful design.
What kind of guests do you feel naturally gravitate toward your space, and how do you hope they experience it when they visit?

We tend to attract people who are looking for something a little more intentional, those who appreciate simplicity, good produce, and thoughtful design. They’re often curious, creative, and value how something feels just as much as how it looks or tastes. When they visit, we hope they feel a sense of ease. Not rushed or overwhelmed, just comfortable. Whether it’s a quiet coffee alone or a long breakfast with friends, the experience should feel grounding and personal. Ideally, they leave feeling a little more connected to the food, the space, and themselves.

Is there one item on your menu that you feel truly represents your café, something you personally return to again and again?

For me, it’s the Fendal Pancake. It’s simple, comforting, and there’s something very honest about it.

What drew you to working with ÅOOMI ceramics, and how do they complement the identity of your café?

ÅOOMI ceramics felt like a natural extension of our philosophy. There’s a quiet beauty to their work. Nothing feels overly designed or forced. The pieces are tactile, organic, and slightly imperfect in a way that feels very human. They complement our identity because they don’t compete with the food; they elevate it subtly. The tones, textures, and craftsmanship align with our overall language: earthy, understated, and intentional. It’s about creating a cohesive experience where every detail feels considered.

What are your plans for Of The Earth in the future?

The focus is on growing thoughtfully and staying true to what we’ve built. Whether that’s expanding the concept, collaborating with like-minded creatives, or exploring new formats, it will always come back to the same core values. We’re interested in deepening the experience through workshops, seasonal menus, and creative collaborations that bring people closer to the idea of living “of the earth.” It’s less about scaling quickly and more about evolving in a way that feels honest and sustainable.
