What inspired you to start a business related to coffee?

In my 20s, I worked as a clothing salesperson, and coffee breaks were an essential part of my day. During that time, I began to feel that I wanted to connect with people through coffee rather than simply selling products. After gaining experience at a local independent coffee shop, I decided to open my own café.

Why did you choose Horie in Osaka as the location for your café?

Horie is an area I’ve always enjoyed—it’s full of great cafés and shops, and I’ve even lived there myself. It’s a neighborhood I feel very connected to, which made it a natural choice for opening my café.

What kind of customers do you have? Are there any memorable or enjoyable interactions?

We welcome a wide range of customers—people who come from afar to shop, those who work in the area, and local residents. Compared to our main store in Nakanoshima, we have many regulars here. One of the most rewarding aspects is seeing customers connect with each other and even become friends through the café.

What type of coffee are you particularly enjoying right now?

At the moment, I really enjoy hand-drip coffee brewed with a V60. We serve our original “heys blend” as well as a variety of single-origin coffees. Recently, we’ve also started roasting our own beans, which has been an exciting development.

Why did you choose ÅOOMI pottery for your shop, and what has it been like working with them?

First of all, their pieces are simply beautiful—I love their design. The handleless cups allow you to feel the warmth of the coffee with both hands, which creates a more intimate experience. The rounded rim also enhances the smoothness of the coffee. Working with ÅOOMI pottery has been a wonderful experience.
