ÅOOMI w domu — Kate Borkowska
Kate Borkowska has been a friend of ÅOOMI for a few years now, with her favourite collection being MESS. Kate's life is always in motion — handling PR for local brands, organizing events, being a mum in a big city. Somewhere between all of these roles, she finds the space for small everyday rituals to recharge her batteries. We talked about them over a sweet breakfast in Kate's sun-filled Warsaw apartment.

Tell us what do you do for work and a little bit about the journey that took you here.
My professional life has a few different aspects. I work with PR for Polish brands, I’m a manager for public personas and I produce events. It has all started when I worked for one creative agency right after my studies. It is there I gained my first experience and I faced what I wanted to do in life. Today, I’m working independently with different clients.
What character traces are the most vital in your industry?
There's no easy answer here. Surely, you need great organisational skills, creativity and the knowledge of the industry. But for me, the most crucial qualities you need to have are: high personal culture, the ability to deal with crises (being too emotional is not your ally here), curiosity, good communication and taking care of relations with others.
We love our home, and ever since my son was born, we have been feeling even more rooted here.
How long have you been living in this apartment and what made you choose it?
We have been living here for about 5 years. We were charmed by the location (we basically live in a park), the privacy (our residential complex comprises only 4 buildings), and the apartment itself. Its big glass walls let in so much of the daylight, which was crucial for us. We also love the terrace area, which is in constant use in the spring and summer seasons.
What does home mean to you?
The word “home” means to me a physical space, as well as the emotional concept. What holds dearest to my heart are things that fill those four walls: gatherings with my friends, family breakfasts on the weekends, long cuddles and laughs with my little son, and feelings of safety and peace. We love our home, and ever since my son was born, we have been feeling even more rooted here.
Do you have any favourite home rituals? What makes you feel good on a daily basis?
My work is very intense and social, so my home is quite literally a sort of an oasis where I can charge my batteries. I have a few rituals that I cherish, beginning with a morning coffee enjoyed without my phone. I also try to be rigid with finishing the work around 6 pm, so we can spend time as a family on our little terrace, finishing each day with saying a little “bye bye” to the sun!
Do you like to cook?
I’m a bit ashamed of admitting this, but for many years I had not cooked almost at all. Living in the center of Warsaw and having a very intense work schedule made me eat all my lunches out. However, it has changed since those last year that we’ve been living here. I now understand the pleasure that can come from cooking and my favourite things to cook are breakfast and experimenting with different bowls.
Why did you choose ÅOOMI for your home?
ÅOOMI have been present at my home for many years. I once saw the MESS collection on your Instagram account and it instantly caught my eye. Now, the ceramics accompany in my everyday life and on special occasions. I always drink coffee in my MESS mug! I really enjoy supporting local Polish brands, especially those created by women.
